In the January issue of Pain Medicine News, the article, “Total Hip or Knee Replacement Not Recommended for Some Patients with Fibromyalgia-Like Symptoms,” features research presented at the 2014 World Congress on Pain that focused on pain scores for 635 arthroplasty patients. The researchers found that higher fibromyalgia self-reported scores independently predicted patients having a less than 50% improvement on the WOMAC pain subscale, less than 50% improvement on the Brief Pain Inventory and poorer scores on the Patient Global Impression of Change.
