Please support the AAHKS Health Policy Campaign – “Time is Now”

Access to hip and knee procedures is facing some real and immediate threats at this time. Health Care reform is moving fast. In addition, the Hip and Knee Codes are coming up for review at the AMA RUC, which recommends reimbursement rates for Medicare to CMS.

To enable our timely response to issues, AAHKS leadership is launching a voluntary fund raising campaign at the 2012 Annual Meeting, entitled “Time is Now”.

Arthroplasty is increasingly in the crosshairs at CMS and other agencies in Washington, because it is such a large budget item, due to the rapidly growing need for joint replacement.

In order to assure that our patients and our organization has a voice when it matters, AAHKS has expanded our consulting relationships with two firms with great experience in Washington.

Gail Daubert, JD of Reed, Smith has been our consultant in Washington for several years. We have enlarged the role that Reed, Smith will play, making them effectively our “Office of Government Relations” in the Capital. They will work with the AAOS Government Relations Team on issues involving Medicare and other federal agencies, as well as providing additional input and support with the RUC process.

We have also retained Alston and Bird as consultants on the RUC. Our lead person there will be Thomas A. Scully, JD, who has long experience with these matters. But while Gail and Tom will be the lead contacts, we will be able to access other experts throughout these experienced firms as needed.

Support AAHKS Health Policy by donating to the “Time is Now” campaign. Access to care and the provision of arthroplasty to those in need in ten years depends on what each of us does now.
