The first hand surgeon to serve as president of the American Medical Association (AMA), will take office in June 2016. The AMA announced the election of Andrew W. Gurman, MD of Hollidaysburg, Pa. as its president-elect at their Annual Meeting on June 9, 2015.

Other highlights of the Annual Meeting, attended by Mike Zarski, JD, AAHKS Executive Director, AAHKS Delegate Cortland G. Lewis, MD and Alternate Delegate Christopher J. Dangles, MD, included a new policy that that calls for more transparency and education in the maintenance of certification process. Delegates also passed policy to address insufficient funding for graduate medical education ahead of a predicted shortage of 46,000-90,000 physicians over the next decade. More highlights.
