Dr. Parvizi Talks Candidly about TJA Developments

In an interview this week with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Javad Parvizi, MD, FRCS, AAHKS Research Committee Chair, shares his thoughts about new developments in the field of hip and knee total joint arthroplasty. “One is genomics. We are individualizing care. In the old days, we would do the same thing for everyone. But we have come to realize that everyone has a unique genetic make-up, which makes them prone to some diseases or respond differently to different treatments,” said Dr. Parvizi, who goes on to talk about DNA testing and isolation of organisms that cause infection. He also cites research presented at the 2017 AAHKS Annual Meeting that showed the effectiveness of aspirin used to treat venous thromboembolism. Full story.
