Time reported last week that grocery chain, Hy-Vee, has contracted with stem cell company, Regenexx, to provide stem cell treatments to employees who are experiencing knee pain. Hy-Vee is requiring that employees take the stem cell therapy route before they can seek knee replacement surgery. AAHKS issued a position statement that does not recommend biologic therapies to treat hip and knee pain. The statement encourages “rigorous, well-designed clinical trials to establish the safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness of these potential treatments prior to widespread adoption.” Read the Time story.
