On August 25, 2019, John R. Tongue, MD died at his home on Oswego Lake in Oregon. Dr. Tongue served as the 80th President of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in 2012, and served as faculty at AAHKS Annual Meetings. He was a clinical associate professor of orthopaedics and rehabilitation at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) School of Medicine. He was instrumental in passing the Oregon Safety Belt Law using his first-hand experience in orthopaedic trauma and received the 1991 Public Service Award from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association. OHSU has published a remembrance.
