Research Committee

Goal:
Promote and develop mechanisms that encourage and promote research and standardized data collection activities.

Objectives:

  1. Encourage members to contribute annually to the OREF designated AAHKS fund.
  2. Promote availability of grants to AAHKS members for hi p and knee research projects
  3. Encourage AAHKS members to submit high-quality research grant applications to OREF. Offer instructions as to proper preparation for a grant to be submitted to OREF.
  4. Establish an annual survey project conducted by the Research Committee on a relevant topic. (Summarized results of the survey data will be distributed to AAHKS members, presented at the Annual Meeting and published in the Journal of Arthroplasty.)
  5. At recommendation of the Board of Directors create position statements on selected controversial topics of importance to the public. Make these position statements available to the public and relevant organizations.

Charges:

  • Encourage members to contribute annually to the OREF designated AAHKS fund.
  • Promote availability of grants to AAHKS members for hip and knee research projects.
  • Evaluate, approve and supervise research grant applications from qualified members of the organization.
  • Provide an annual report to the executive board for approval, regarding the financial accounting of all grant activities, completion of pending grant projects, and the newly approved grant proposals.
  • Initiate and conduct surveys of the general membership regarding subjects of timely interest.

Evidence Based Medicine Committee

Charges:

  • The AAHKS Committee will liaise with the AAOS EBM Committee.
  • Promote the implementation of outcomes assessment and research in the fields of total hip and knee arthroplasty.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the AAHKS Board of Directors.
  • Collaborate with the AAHKS Research Committee and Committee on Industry and Technology to formulate research and fund-raising initiatives that will enhance the practices and minimize the cost to the membership.
  • Facilitate the building and maintenance of a national database in collaboration with the AAOS for the definition and improvement of quality patient care.
