Orthopaedic Group Pays HIPAA Settlement

According to Bloomberg National Affairs, Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic of North Carolina has agreed to pay $750,000 to settle charges that it might have violated the HIPAA Privacy Rule by disclosing protected health information (PHI) for about 17,300 patients by recycling X-ray films without first executing a business associate agreement (BAA), according to the Department of Health and Human Services.
