US News & World Report covered a new study published in Clinical Infectious Diseases, “The Impact of a Reported Penicillin Allergy on Surgical Site Infection Risk.” The study concluded that patients who reported a penicillin allergy and received alternative perioperative antibiotics had a 50% increase of a surgical site infection.
