James I. Huddleston, III, MD Takes Office as AAHKS President
February 14, 2024 (San Francisco, CA) – On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, James I. “Hutch” Huddleston III, MD took office as the 34th President of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) during the Board of Directors meeting in San Francisco. Dr. Huddleston is currently the Adult Reconstruction Division Director and Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies at Yale University and medical school at the University of Vermont. He completed the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program and fellowship in adult reconstruction at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Throughout Dr. Huddleston’s impressive career, he has held various roles from serving as the Chair of the California Joint Replacement Registry to serving as the Chair of the Steering Committee for the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR), which is a role he holds currently. Dr. Huddleston also consults for the Yale Center for Outcomes Research/Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on issues related to hip and knee arthroplasty.

As a member of AAHKS since 2009, Dr. Huddleston has served as an Abstract Reviewer, a member and Chair of the Advocacy Committee and the Health Policy Council. In his capacity as Council Chair, he worked extensively on payment issues and advocated for the profession in Washington, DC with CMS and Congress, before joining the Presidential Line. Dr. Huddleston was also awarded the AAHKS Presidential Award in 2020.
