Javad Parvizi MD, FRCS Takes Office as AAHKS President

 

March 08, 2023 (Las Vegas, NV) – On Wednesday, March 8, 2023, Javad Parvizi, MD, FRCS took office as the 33rd President of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) during the Board of Directors meeting in Las Vegas. Dr. Parvizi is currently the James Edward Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Sidney Kimmel School of Medicine and Rothman Orthopaedics in Philadelphia. He completed his medical school education in the United Kingdom, followed by residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic and fellowship training in management of hip disorders in young adults in Switzerland. 

Dr. Parvizi is the recipient of numerous awards from global societies and has received funding for his research from the National Institute of Health, Department of Defense, Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation, Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation and Arthritis Foundation. He has been given the honorary membership of over 30 societies around the world, but as a leader, he has served as President of the MusculoSkeletal Infection Society (2013) and Eastern Orthopedic Association (2018).

Added to his long list of accomplishments, Dr. Parvizi is also the founder and CEO of Parvizi Surgical Innovation (PSI) LLC, an incubator and accelerator that develops innovative products in healthcare to improve patient care. PSI is currently developing numerous products in the field of infection sciences, regenerative medicine and biologics, precision surgery and digital health.

As a member of AAHKS since 2004, Dr. Parvizi has served on the Nominating Committee, as a Board Member-at-Large, Chair of the Research Committee and Associate Editor for The Journal of Arthroplasty before joining the Presidential Line.
