The Canadian television network, CTV, in Toronto reported on an international clinical trial for knee cartilage injuries taking place at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton, Ontario. Surgeons collect a cartilage sample from the patient and send it to a clinic in Pittsburgh, where it’s grown into a larger sheet and sent back to St. Joseph’s. “Doctors in Canada then cut a tiny piece of cartilage from the sheet to plug the hole,” according to the report.
