Healio reported that “the expansion of Medicaid coverage under the Affordable Care Act has led to increased utilization of Medicaid-funded total hip and total knee arthroplasty procedures.” The study, originally published in The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery on January 21, analyzed data from nine states that expanded Medicaid and two that did not. When controlling for other factors, the authors found that states that expanded Medicaid saw 15% increases in both THA and TKA surgeries. Read the full study here.
