The General Session of the 2025 AAHKS Annual Meeting resumed this morning with welcome remarks from Program Chair Leonard T. Buller, MD. Joining the four symposia and 30 papers on today’s program was a report from the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) Chair James I. Huddleston III, MD and presentation of the 2025 AAHKS Awards. Congratulations to all award recipients! 

  • AAHKS President R. Michael Meneghini, MD, bestowed the AAHKS Presidential Award to Adam J. Rana, MD, in honor of his steadfast leadership of AAHKS advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C. to protect surgeons’ rights and reimbursement. 
  • The Lawrence D. Dorr, MD, Humanitarian Award went to Mark W. Woolf, MD. In presenting remarks, Humanitarian Committee Vice Chair Kevin B. Fricka, MD, noted Dr. Woolf’s outreach with the medical mission organization, Faith In Practice, since 2006 as a mission team leader and lead surgeon on more than 25 surgical mission teams. 
  • Three Fall 2025 FARE Grants were awarded. Two FARE Research Grants went to “Evaluating a Non-Opioid Analgesic Strategy for Enhanced Recovery After Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Randomized Controlled Trial of Suzetrigine” by Ramakanth R. Yakkanti, MD (Rothman Orthopaedics at Advent Health) and “The Biomarkers for Dormant Infection Predict when to Stop Antibiotics after Infection-related Surgery” by Derek F. Amanatullah, MD, PhD (Stanford University). The FARE Disparities Grant went to “Assessing Disparities in Patient Understanding and Attitudes Towards Total Knee Replacement (TKR) Among Minority Populations: A Multicenter Study” by Vinay K Aggarwal, MD (NYU). 
  • The AAHKS Diversity Award was given to Audrey K. Tsao, MD, in recognition of her efforts to make the profession more diverse as a co-founder and volunteer with Women Orthopaedist Global Outreach (WOGO) and as the inaugural Chair of the Women in Arthroplasty (WIA) Committee. 
  • The Resident & Student Research Award, given to the top-rated presentation from Thursday’s Resident & Student Research Symposium, went to Sophie Antonioli, BS, for the paper “Does an Isolated Elevated ESR Value Warrant Further Work-up for PJI Following THA?”
