AAHKS Introduces the Industry Innovation Award

For Immediate Release
November 4, 2022

Rosemont, IL – On Friday, November 4, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) introduced a new Industry Innovation Award at their Annual Meeting. The 2022 AAHKS Industry Innovation Award is a competitive product award for companies exhibiting at the AAHKS Annual Meeting. It recognizes cutting-edge innovation in the field of orthopaedic hip and knee arthroplasty by exhibitors. All industry partners and exhibitors were encouraged to apply for a chance for recognition of their newest products and services by applying for the award. This pilot program is intended to be given annually to the most innovative products in the Exhibit Hall/Learning Center.

We are proud to announce this year’s awards recipients: Enovis and bioMerieux, Inc. The winners were announced during the Welcome Reception on Friday, November 4. Representatives from Enovis and bioMerieux, Inc. will be interviewed about the innovative products for the AAHKS Amplified podcast and badged as winners of the Industry Innovation Award for the next year.

“AAHKS is truly excited to grant the Industry Innovation Award to both Enovis and bioMerieux, Inc. in our pilot year. It’s very important for industry to have a role in developing innovations in patient care and with 19 entries submitted, I think that’s a great indicator for innovation in the field of hip and knee arthroplasty,” said Bryan D. Springer, MD, AAHKS President.

The award-winning product submitted by Enovis was the ARVIS® Augmented Reality System. According to Enovis, “it represents the next era of orthopaedic technology. The ARVIS® is an imageless, self-contained augmented reality navigation system for hip and knee arthroplasty. This wearable, self-contained system delivers real-time, hands-free surgical guidance directly to the surgeon at the point of care. Cameras mounted at the surgeon’s viewpoint track re-usable markers on the patient to provide accurate navigation guidance for total hip, total knee, and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty.”

The bioMerieux, Inc. award-winning product is the BioFire JI Panel. According to the company, “it tests for a comprehensive grouping of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeast, and antimicrobial resistance genes commonly associated with joint infections. It takes just one syndromic test, one small sample of synovial fluid, and about an hour to get results on 39 clinically relevant targets.”
