The full “Optimal Timing of Total Hip and Knee Arthroplasty” guideline, jointly developed by AAHKS and the American College of Rheumatology, has been published in the JOA and in the ACR journal. The jointly developed guideline, a summary of which was released in March 2023, focuses on the timing of hip and knee arthroplasty, and when nonoperative treatment or delays for medical optimization are appropriate for patients with advanced osteoarthritis and osteonecrosis who have failed nonoperative therapy.
