Congresswoman Kim Schrier (D-WA) addresses the 2020 AAHKS legislative retreat.

AAHKS members meeting with Rep. French Hill (R-AR)

More than 40 AAHKS leaders convened in our nation’s capital this week, along with representatives from AAOS, The Hip Society and The Knee Society, to meet with more than 50 Congressional offices and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). They discussed the value of arthroplasty and the effect of the transition to value-based care has had and will have on surgeons’ practices. The retreat began with a welcome from Congresswoman Kim Schrier, MD (D-WA, 8th district), and included an address by Brendan Fulmer, Advisor to the Secretary for Value-Based Transformation and Innovation, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Attendees also heard updates from the Orthopaedic PAC staff and discussed the future of Medicare as it may be affected by the Presidential election and the Anti-kickback Statues and Stark law proposed rules from CMS.
