In addition to streamlined Application and Case List entry functions, the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) is adding a web-based option as an alternative to the multiple-choice examination required for MOC. The new ABOS Web-Based Longitudinal Assessment (ABOS WLA) program begins in January 2019. Diplomates will choose 15 Knowledge Sources from approximately 100 posted annually to the ABOS website. The ABOS will deliver 30 questions based on those sources to the Diplomate’s home computer in April. Open-book questions, allotted three minutes each, are to be answered over a five-week period. The process will repeat yearly until five successful years (80% correct) out of eight are achieved. Fees will be comparable to current programs.

Please contact Peter M. Murray, MD, President, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery at president@abos.org or David F. Martin, MD, Executive Medical Director, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery at dmartin@abos.org with any questions. Learn more.
