A study published in the May issue of the Journal of Arthroplasty included a simple protocol for kneeling after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Authors Sara J.S. Wallace, MD, MPH and Richard A. Berger, MD from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago recognized the common complaint from patients of difficulty kneeling after TKA. The purpose of their study was to “retrospectively assess patients’ ability to kneel after TKA and to prospectively determine whether patients with reported difficulty can be taught to kneel.” Those who were eligible for “kneeling training” were instructed to kneel for 10 minutes each day for five weeks while kneeling on a progressively harder surface each week. All were able to kneel after following this protocol. Full story.
