Congress needs to hear from all orthopaedic surgeons now in opposition to proposed 2026 Medicare cuts. CMS is planning several radical changes to how physician rates are calculated, including an across-the-board 2.5% “efficiency adjustment” and cuts to indirect practice expense values for facility-based services, which will total cuts of 1% to 14% depending on specialty. For AAHKS members, CPT 27447 and 27130 are scheduled to be cut by approximately 7% in 2026, unless CMS is forced to back down. AAHKS leadership has met with key Congressional allies to explain how unjustified these cuts are. We have been coordinating with other medical societies to share with CMS how these cuts will harm access to care and accelerate practice consolidation. We believe CMS will reverse these planned cuts only if CMS hears opposition from Congress—and Congressional offices will express opposition to CMS only if they believe these cuts are a real problem for their constituents. Congressional members and their staff will believe these cuts are unjustified only if they hear directly from you and your colleagues. Take Action Now!
