As AAHKS and the Advocacy Task Force intensify opposition to the proposed 20% Medicare cuts for hip and knee arthroplasty, the Board of Directors unanimously approved a $1 million budget adjustment to support an expanded advocacy campaign. These funds will allow AAHKS to add lobbying support, retain a strategic communications firm, travel to Washington and pursue other rapid-response efforts during a narrow advocacy window. AAHKS President Antonia F. Chen, MD, MBA noted that the Association’s strong financial position allows for pulling out all the stops in opposing the proposed cuts without affecting reserves or impairing other programs and activities.
