AAHKS joined the American Medical Association and more than 100 specialty and state medical societies in sending letters to the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives regarding surprise billing. The letters call for legislation not to “create new imbalances in the private health care marketplace.” The letters request the inclusion of independent dispute resolution (IDR) in surprise billing legislation and that the legislation “establish strong, measurable, and enforceable network adequacy requirements, as well as require stronger enforcement of federal mental health and substance use disorder parity and prudent layperson laws.” Read the Senate and House letters.
