Last week the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the MIPS automatic extreme and uncontrollable circumstances (EUC) policy, which holds physicians harmless from up to 9% MIPS penalties because of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency. CMS stated, “due to the continuing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic PHE, we are applying the automatic extreme and uncontrollable circumstances (EUC) policy to all MIPS eligible clinicians for the 2020 MIPS performance year.” AAHKS has advocated, and continues to do so, for physician relief like this throughout the pandemic. For more on eligibility, review CMS’s Fact Sheet.
