A study published in this month’s issue of the Journal of Arthroplasty sought to determine the risk of complications from tranexamic acid (TXA) in total hip and total knee arthroplasty. Researchers retrospectively examined 38,220 high-risk and low-risk cases. They assessed rates of deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction and cerebrovascular accident post-operatively at 90 days.
