This year during the Annual Meeting, AAHKS President Javad Parvizi, MD, FRCS has declared Friday, November 2, Arthroplasty Unity Day. While attending the Annual Meeting, whether in person or virtually, we will ask you to stand together and write to Congress urging them to pass H.R. 2474, the Strengthening Medicare Patients and Providers Act, to reform Medicare physician payments and preserve quality, choice and access for beneficiaries. Medicare payments to joint replacement surgeons dropped 65% in the last 30 years, adjusted for inflation. Real, stable and permanent reform of Medicare physician payment must ensure that reimbursement grows with inflation, grows commensurate with facility payments and does not pit medical specialties against each other. A good first step is for Congress to enact H.R. 2474, the Strengthening Medicare Patients and Providers Act. While at the Annual Meeting, please join your colleagues and take the time to write Congress with our simple, online messaging form. For more background on the issue, read our one-pager and share this postcard with your patients. Click here to find all the Unity Day resources.
