Periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI) remains the most significant, unsolved problem for arthroplasty surgeons and their patients. Irrigation with antimicrobial agents has proven effective in reducing the incidence, but a new generation of safer, longer lasting antimicrobial wound irrigation solutions is poised to reduce incidence and morbidity even further. PHMB is a widely used antimicrobial, recently introduced to arthroplasty care that is seeing wide acceptance and improving outcomes for patients.
