AAHKS signed on to an AAOS comment letter to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Seema Verma, MPH, regarding issues with Bundled Payment for Care Improvement Advanced (BPCI-A). While BPCI-A is a welcome new model for bundled payments for many orthopaedic procedures, this letter speaks to some problems with the model, including the fact that Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) will take precedence over BPCI-A in CJR mandatory metropolitan statistical areas. The letter also points out unintended consequences of removing TKA from the Medicare inpatient-only list and points out the need for more orthopaedic advanced alternative payment models.
