This week, AAHKS joined the AMA, AAOS and 109 other specialty and state medical societies in writing to the secretaries of the Departments of Health and Human Services, the Treasury and Labor, to express our growing concern that some health plans are undermining the careful balance achieved in the No Surprises Act. The Act was designed to protect patients from surprise medical bills and to promote fair contracting incentives between payers and physicians. However, health plans are finding ways to circumvent the statute with harmful policies that shift costs onto patients and undercut independent physician practices, jeopardizing access to care in their communities. This letter urges the Departments to increase enforcement efforts and require greater transparency in the IDR process. For more information, read the letter.
