Last week AAHKS President Antonia F. Chen, MD, MBA was interviewed by Becker’s Spine Review for an article on the cuts to arthroplasty in the CMS Medicare Physician Fee Schedule proposed rule. “Dr. Chen believes patients will feel that misalignment before policymakers do. She worries some surgeons will respond to continued payment pressure by limiting Medicare patients or leaving Medicare altogether. “The biggest problem is that it’s going to hurt our seniors or anyone with Medicare,” she said.”

This week Dr. Chen joined AAHKS Board Member-at-Large Ugo Ihekweazu, MD and other orthopaedic surgeons to discuss the effect on ASCs that the new mandatory bundled payment model for hospitals, Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement Expanded Model (CJR-X) and updated TEAM model will have. Advocacy Committee Chair P. Maxwell Courtney, MD, also spoke with Becker’s about CMS’ proposed cuts and the effect they could have on private practice and Medicare patients. Read The ‘hamster wheel’ orthopedic surgeons can’t outrun.
