AAHKS joined more than 100 other specialty and state medical societies in a letter to U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Secretary Alex M. Azar, II regarding the October 3, 2019 Executive Order entitled, “Protecting and Improving Medicare for our Nation’s Seniors.” The concern surrounds the “broad yet vague language…related to the supervision and reimbursement of nonphysician professionals” as well as a proposed regulation that could affect physicians and nonphysician reimbursements through Medicare and Medicaid. Executive Orders can be used to direct federal agencies to develop new policies and in this case they do not establish or change laws or regulations, but state the Administration’s intent to change.
