Last week, AAHKS joined the American Medical Association (AMA) and 149 other national and state medical societies in writing Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Mehmet C. Oz, MD, MBA, urging CMS not to finalize the proposed policy to reduce payment by 50% when a separately identifiable office/outpatient (O/O) evaluation and management (E/M) service reported with modifier -25 is furnished on the same day as a procedure with a 0-, 10-, or 90-day global period. CMS characterizes the overlap it seeks to correct only as “likely,” and states that it “continue[s] to believe” efficiencies exist. For more information, read the letter.
