On July 7, 2022, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the CY 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) proposed rule. Read our full summary here. CMS proposes to decrease the PFS conversion factor by $1.53 to $33.08 due to statutory requirements and the expiring Protecting Medicare and American Farmers from Sequester Cuts Act, and the statutorily required budget neutrality adjustment (-1.5%). However, small, proposed increases in RVUs for practice expense and malpractice insurance offset the reduction in the 2023 conversion factor for primary THA and TKA, leading to level reimbursement rates for 2023.
For 27446, CMS proposes to adopt the RUC-recommended work RVU of 17.13, a reduction from the current RVU of 17.48. The proposed rule also seeks input on the importance of dental services to TJA, Quality Payment Program MIPS measure changes and benchmark proposals for MIPS administrative claims measure calculations. Learn more from our summary. AAHKS will be submitting comments ahead of the September 6 deadline.
