Coastal Point, a newspaper for the Delaware beach community, featured an article about the age of knee replacement patients and what they can do once they have TKR surgery. The article cites patient statistics from the AAOS and AAHKS that show more total knee replacements are being done on younger patients, “The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), as well as members of the American Association of Hip & Knee Surgeons and the Knee Society, report a dramatic increase of total knee replacements in younger people. Between 2004 and 2008 alone, total knee replacement surgery rose 61 percent in men and women between the ages of 45 and 64. Medical professionals say their younger patients aren’t willing to settle for a more sedentary lifestyle. They want more.” Full article.
