Healio published a point-counterpoint article on August 16 asking the question, “Will moving orthopedic procedures to freestanding facilities impact health care economics?” Two orthopaedic physicians highlight different viewpoints: one calls it a “rare win” from the physician standpoint, but warns “reimbursement should not be restricted to the point where it prohibits surgeon participation and/or compromises patient care.” The other says that “the more orthopedic surgeons own and control the “means of production” in delivering care, the more valuable they will be to employers, insurers and patients.” Read the full article.
