Orthopaedic team and staff, CMS has proposed a 20% cut to Medicare physician-service payments for total hip and knee replacement, a change that would threaten patient access, reduce support from nurses and clinical staff and further strain independent orthopaedic practices. This cut is not just a surgeon reimbursement issue—it could mean longer waits, fewer choices for Medicare patients and worse outcomes for individuals suffering from severe hip and knee arthritis.
