The Foundation for Arthroplasty Research and Education (FARE) has announced the recipients of two FARE grants for the spring 2020 cycle. “Metal Artifact Reduction Sequence MRI Abnormalities in Asymptomatic Patients with Dual Mobility Hip Prostheses,” submitted by Jay R. Lieberman, MD and Nathanael D. Heckmann, MD of the University of Southern California will seek to determine the prevalence of MARS-MRI abnormalities in patients who have undergone a primary total hip arthroplasty with a modular dual-mobility implant.
“Antibiotic Prophylaxis in High-Risk Primary Total Joint Arthroplasty Patients,” was submitted by Nicholas A. Bedard, MD of the University of Iowa Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation. Dr. Bedard’s prospective, randomized controlled trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of oral, prophylactic antibiotics on preventing PJI in high-risk patients undergoing primary TJA.
